Kamembe / Cyangugu

Saturday 28th March: We take an afternoon drive to meet the neighbours for lunch at L'Etoile du Lac in Cyangugu (our island table below) and were told there was a nice pool to swim in so we arrive in our swimwear! Across the lake we admire the Congo, with the border just across the bridge.

After a few hours of rain-dodging under the trees, we head to Kamembe town centre (Cyangugu the old name for the town) to buy fruit and veg at the local market. Sharon is at hand to make sure we Mzungus aren't completely ripped off. The market is hectic and bustling with locally grown goods. We buy Japanese plums, onions, lemons, avocadoes, passion fruit, bananas and material. Jules and I go to the tailors and order a shirt and some skirts.

When we got back home, I found this stick insect sheltering in one of the veg bags. (Plastic bags are actually banned in Rwanda so paper bags are provided and charged for.)
